Water / Wastewater Department

Dakota City is proud to own and operate both a Water Treatment Plant and a Wastewater Treatment Plant. Staff hours are from 7:00 a.m. 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Staff also conduct daily inspections of both plants on weekends and holidays.

In 2019, the City completed the construction of a multi-million dollar wastewater treatment facility. The plant is a Sequencing Batch Reaction (SBR) treatment facility. It is located at 367 190th Street, which is approximately one mile South of Dakota City’s corporate limits. The plant was funded by the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality’s State Revolving Loan Fund.

Water System

Dakota City’s Water Treatment Plant is located at 22nd and Willow Street. This facility underwent major rehabilitation in 2013 and was completed in 2014. The City’s two well sites are also located on this property. In 2018, the City completed a well rehabilitation project which resulted in a new south well and improved north well. These improvements have greatly improved the quality of water provided to customers.

The City provides lime-softened water to the community and to Dakota County Rural Water customers.

The City’s 2022 Water Quality Report can be viewed here.

Water department staff also oversee and enforce the City’s backflow prevention program.
